Independent freelancing is booming.
In the new world of cheaper, faster crowdsourced custom graphic design, how long does it take a professional graphic designer to create a new custom logo, without compromising great quality, versus the old way?
There are four distinct phases of the design process a freelancer designer undertakes to create a stunning logo design for a client.
Phase 1: Research
Duration: 3.5 hours
- Reading and understanding the design brief
- Research the company. Who are they, what do they do?
- Utilise market research insights the client has provided or research some industry reports to understand who the target market is.
- Check out key competitor’s websites and branding approach for strengths and weaknesses
Phase 2: Design
Duration: 2.5 hours
- Brainstorm and sketch – if your workspace is lacking inspiration, then get out of the building, head to the park or coffee shop to stimulate your creativity.
- Digitize concepts
Pro tip: Follow our guide to avoid submitting generic design concepts.
We compare the old and the new timelines for getting a logo made.
Phase 3: Submission and feedback
Duration: 45 minutes
In this phase, when submitting your design for client consideration, you should check you’ve met the brief requirements and include a rationale for your design. This will help the client to intepret your design.
If you want to submit more than one design that iterates on the same concept, link your design submissions together. Read more about how to link design concepts.
Feedback: Check your messages and notifications tabs in MyAccount for feedback from your clients. Impress your clients by fast responses and updated designs that address their requests.
Phase 4: Handover
Duration: 30 minutes
Clean up design files and handover to client. Make sure you provide the appropriate documents: refer to DesignCrowd’s Guide to File Formats and Deliverables.
