Think of classic portraits, and you probably get visions of elegance, aristocracy and authority represented in drably lit oil paintings which feature ridiculous amounts of ruff. Right?
Put next to today’s hipster craze comprising of charity shop clothing, lumberjack beards and organic coffee, and there doesn’t seem to be many parallels.
However, combine the two, and well, you’ve got yourself a cracking creative contest idea for our community here at DesignCrowd.
The task was simple – grab a high-res photo of a famous painting featuring a portrait, and accessorize/hipsterize it.
From simply adding thick rimmed glasses to featuring full facial hair, beanies, fixed gear bikes and obscure tattoos, the options for entrants was almost endless. To give an extra bit of inspiration, we included this ‘Real Hipster Infographic’ in the design brief.
And the results saw a fabulously fashionable line up of fine art, including Van Gogh, the Mona Lisa, and a few new look Napoleons.
