39 Envelope Designs For Better Credibility

Graphic Design39 Envelope Designs For Better Credibility

As a business, we want our brand to be strong. From your logo to stationery design, there’s still more you can do to make your business stand out amongst the competition: envelope design.

It’s a great way to subtly tell your market that you have what they need in a more personal way. It’s easy to send an email with the details they need, but sending something in the mail makes your brand personal and has that old-school feel.

You also ensure that a part of you, particularly your logo design, is highlighted to improve your mark on your market. Check out the envelope designs below for our marketing scheme.

Ingredients for An Effective Envelope Design

Before we get into the templates you can use, let’s discuss the basics: types, parts, and sizes. There are around six kinds of envelopes:

  • Diamond Flap is the most popular envelope style that consumers use—C5. It is a square envelope that allows you to take a peek at the contents upon opening it. And can have the forms of C6 and DL wallet or pocket styles.
  • Diamond High Cut gives you more privacy. As the name suggests, compared to the diamond flap, which describes all four that create the pocket, the high diamond cut has two rectangular flaps that keep the contents hidden from the receiver. It still has a diamond flap that seals the envelope and is often used by B2C communications.
  • DL Wallet, commonly known as the business letter. Its contents are usually that of an A4 folded into three, typically brown or white.
  • Square, this type of envelope design has a flat flap at the top and gives you as much privacy as a diamond high-cut envelope. This type is for invitations and single-purchased greeting cards like the diamond flap.
  • DL Wallet with Window is also commonly used because of the convenience of not having to write on the envelope. You can just fold your A4 with the address and slip it into the pocket to be seen by the window. Aside from that, the transparent part of the envelope can be custom shaped so you can brand better.
  • DL Pocket Wallet is another variation of the business letter. Compared to the two above, the flap is on the side of the envelope. It’s easier to fill and remove its contents.
  • Block Bottom for this type; the flap is also on the side. But the difference from the rest of the examples is the sturdier inset so that you can put more bulky items inside it. And the bottom is flat, which is great for labeling.
  • Board-Back Pocket, as the name suggests, has a board incorporated into the envelope. This design is the envelope you use to send photos so that the image doesn’t have a crease when delivered.
  • Commercial Square Flap this type of envelope doesn’t need sealing since it contains gifts or vouchers. The flap is almost as big as the bottom and gives you that luxurious feel upon receiving it.
  • Broad Pocket is a big envelope with a flap on the side, making it a wallet type.
  • Sample Pocket is used to store seeds; that’s why it has a secure split fastener as a sealer. This feature allows you to re-use it for storage.
  • Gusset Pocket is an envelope under the block bottom, but it allows expansion on all sides so you can fit more in it.
  • Long Pocket is characterized by the flap being on the short side of the envelope. And as the name suggests, it can store longer and wider documents as long as it’s folded.
  • Eagle Pocket is mainly used by lawyers and has a broad back that allows space for a return address.
  • String and Washer are for personal use and occasions since it’s too fancy to use for business purposes. The washer holds the string you need to unwind, which feels like you’re opening a present.
  • Tissue-Lined Tuck has the inside of the envelope lined with tissue, hence the name. It’s delicate, so you only send special messages inside this type.
  • Topless Thumb Pocket is an old-fashioned envelope used for CDs, documents, and record cards since it has no flap. It gives the user easier access to the contents inside and is reusable.
  • Tuck and Slit have a slit in the middle of the envelope for the flap to be tucked. This type is usually a pocket envelope for easier access and storage of documents.
  • Tuck Flap is like the example above, but you tuck the flap in the throat. It is mostly used for invitations to an event to give the receiver a feel of exclusivity and privacy.

Now you know the types, let’s get into the parts to create your envelope design effectively. The open face, semi-open face, and closed face parts to an envelope.

  • Open Face
    • Face
    • Seal Flap
    • Side Flap
    • Bottom Flap

  • Semi-Open Face
    • Seal Gum
    • Throat
    • Shoulder
    • Bottom Flap

Now, for you to add design, it’s best to put them in these parts:

  • Back of the Envelope (needs to have your details as the sender and logo)
  • Throat (inside the envelope)
  • Seal Gum (inner borders look great)
  • The color of the envelope itself.

Lastly, let’s get into the envelope design sizes. We divided them into three categories: business, booklet, and catalog.

Attention-Grabbing Imagery

This design is the opposite of simplicity. An image says a thousand words, use that to your advantage. Captivate and intrigue your receiver with a niche-related image.

Maybe a child growing up as a representation of insurance or maybe a couple about to be wed as your event’s agency image. You can even put it on a business card, letterhead, or even email signature to show brand consistency.

Either way, we know your imagery will look great. Check out the designs below for more ideas:

Product/Service Preview

Show your receiver what you offer as a business through your product or service on the envelope. It’s a great way to incite feelings of want and need.

In a way, it’s like the theory in psychology called Modeling coined by Albert Bandura. His theory states that if one person observes another doing an action, they will do it.

Use that knowledge to your advantage and market your product or service as something a person needs through people using your product. Maybe have an employee or brand ambassador show that they are using your product/service.
