What makes you pick up a product off the shelf? Is it the name, the tag line, the product description, the visual design or the touch of it? Chances are it’s all of the above. Ultimately it was the packaging design that caught your attention. So how do you make packaging appeal to the casual buyer?
We’ve found the best examples of client packaging and label design work from DesignCrowd to inspire your own packaging design projects.
When you view the work, keep an eye out for how designers have used visual design principles and other visual hooks to grab your attention.
Things like:
- The considered use of colour and typography systems or hierachies to align the eye
- Be strategic in the use of space including negative and empty space to guide attention
- Be playful – have fun with the packaging, provide a sneak-peek inside
- Play with the senses and texutures – add a bit of luxury or keep it simple
- Find unusual ways the packaging design can complement the product (what’s inside, folks!)
- Be bold! Use colour, line, typography to entice the eye
- Be modern – gender neutral, simple colours and clean packaging details
