Do you know the big three of hand-crafts?
Crochet, knitting, and?
That’s right, embroidery. It comes from the French word broderie, which means embellishment. But do you know how it started and where?
History of Embroidery
Embroidery has been in the business since 30,000 B.C. or Cro-Magnon days. The origin of our human state is now after the existence of Neanderthals.
How do we know this?
Because fossils found relating to the period showed to have hand-stitched decorations that adorned clothing. Also, embroidery itself was not just for design but as a sign of social status.
For Medieval Islamic culture, the more intricate the stitch was, the higher your status was. Aside from that, in the 18th century, practicing embroidery was a right of passage for girls to enter into womanhood.
Admittedly, if we do think about it now, until now, embroidery is associated with women. But when 1900 came, embroidery no longer embodied social status or a tradition.
It was a pass time that everyone could enjoy. We said goodbye to the sexist status of the art of embroidery.
We welcome men enjoying this complex manner of stitching. Men like Henry Fonda and King of Sweden, Gustaf V, broke down the barrier and created a new norm.
Thanks to the advances in technology, we can now digitize patterns that everyone can access. Thus, let’s give your business a new brand identity with these embroidery logo ideas you’ll love!
